Get your bowling game face on for Bowl-o-Rama

Today is the final day to sign up for the 14th annual Bowl-o-Rama. Proceeds from the event will go to Adopt-A-Family, a charity program run by the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU). Adopt-A-Family supports the families of about 40 students during the holiday season and Easter each year.

Registration is $80 for a team of four, and the price includes two rounds of bowling, pizza, soda and snacks. The event has often been themed and, while there is no overall theme this year, players are still encouraged to dress up. There will be a costume contest during the event and the best-dressed team will receive a prize.

There will also be prizes for best scores (both team and individual) and most pledge donations. Teams can pick up pledge forms to collect donations from family, friends and anyone else interested in supporting Adopt-A-Family.

Players can purchase beer and other alcohol at the event, and there will be a silent auction as well. “There’s going to be some cool stuff to bid on,” says Metta Pusa, SAMU programs manager.

Last year, 20 teams of four registered for the event, and almost $3000 was raised for Adopt-A-Family. Even if philanthropy isn’t the name of your game, $20 per person is a pretty good price for an evening of bowling, food and fun.

“I don’t hear of too many people going bowling that often,” says Pusa. “I think it’s just a nice opportunity to do something different while doing something good.”
