Landscaping on the MacEwan University campus by Building 5 was completed earlier this month. In a statement to the Griff, MacEwan University explained its partnership with EPCOR to improve the rainwater management in the surrounding area through EPCOR’s Low Impact Development Initiative.
“This approach uses specialized soils and natural landscaping to slow, absorb, filter and clean rainwater before it enters the stormwater system.”
Part of this project included planting various perennials to reduce the need to replant new flowers every season, as the campus is surveyed annually to “maintain a vibrant and inviting campus.”
One of these perennial plants is the panicle hydrangea.
They are big, pale green-and-pink flower bushes with cone-shaped panicles that bloom in spring and summer. They are remarkably hardy plants, requiring little special treatment to survive the cold winter months. This makes them incredibly easy to take care of.
Further landscaping projects will take place around the area between Allard Hall and Robbins Health Learning Centre.
